Clik here to view.I came across a great article today celebrating 75 years of the caped crusader. Batman has been my favourite since I was a young boy, most likely die to the 60’s TV show. In recent years I’ve stopped reading the comics because they have become to bizarre, to far-fetched but what the author of the post concludes is, I think spot on. It is Batman’s humanity that makes him so relatable. He is one of us. A very rich one of us but a human nonetheless,
‘When I was putting together the collection I went around interviewing a wide range of Batman fans—from people queuing up for a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Melbourne, to the former president of DC Comics,’ says Dr Burke.
‘Consistently across the board they always say his humanity [is central to his appeal]. This isn’t a guy who’s from an alien planet, this isn’t someone who was bitten by a radioactive spider. This is an average guy, albeit incredibly wealthy and incredibly intelligent, at the peak of human fitness, but an average guy nonetheless. That sort of aspirational quality has been identified as the reason Batman sort of stands above Spiderman, Superman or any number of heroes.’
